Elder Redd's favorite scripture

Elder Redd's favorite missionary scripture

Alma 26:11-12
But Ammon said unto him: I do not boast in my own strength,
nor in my own wisdom; but behold, my joy is full, yea, my heart is brim with
joy, and I will rejoice in my God.
Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak;
therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his
strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought
in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

Las Venturas de Elder Rojo: Capitulo 17

Hola familia y amigos como estan? este semana fue marvilloso tuve muchas gran experiencias y estoy trabajando duro. Espero que todos esten bien y les gusto sus semanas.

It was great to hear from all of you!

first things first... HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAIMA!!!!! It was great to hear from you and it sounds like you had a great birthday with your gluten free breakfast, going to the museum, and the symphony! I'm glad you Jeff and the kids are all doing well.

Sister!! Congrats on the new calling! its really cool to hear about that and the adjustments you're making for it. Also I have not played human battleship but it does sound like a lot of fun. I've also never played telephone charades I have played telephone pictionary though we may need to play that with the family once The-day-that-shall-not-be-named arrives.

As for your Denverian prize you will get it once I go to a bank of America and can withdraw sufficient funds. I'll let you know once I've sent it.

So language mix up stories I do in fact have a few of them most from the MTC but I'll tell you anyways. The first is a story of when one of the sisters in my district said "Mediante la expiacion de JesuCristo podemos ser limpio de nuestros pescados" which translates to: through the atonement of Jesus Christ we can be clean of our fish. substitute pecados for pescados and the sentence actually makes sense. the second is when we were practicing door approaches and I said "hola somos missioneros de la iglesia de Jesucristo de los santos de los ultimos dias. Tenemos un mesaje para usted sobre la restauracion del evangelio de JesuCristo." which translates as follows. Hi we're missionaries for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day siants, we have a massage for you about the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. ....... ..... that was a little awkward thankfully it was in the MTC not the field. I haevf more but I am super pressed for time so I'll make sure I throw them in my next email.

It was great to hear from you mom and dad it was great to hear about the temple. I don't have time to write much more. I'll tell you about Jesus' baptism and everything else next week because I am out of time

I love you all and hope to hear from you ALL next week

P.S I also have a new companion we're in a tripanionship his names Elder Reese he's in the pictures.

Capitulo 16

Hola Familia y Amigos!! Espero que todos esten disfrutando el regresa a escuela, trabajo, y la clima mas fresca!! Me gusta la cambia en clima aqui porque es mas fresca, antes hizo mucho calor aqui.

I guess I could translate it for you Dad although I did have a lot of fun wondering what you thought. (Hello family and Friends. I hope that you're all enjoying the return to school and work, and the cooler weather! I like the change in weather here because it's more cool. Before it was very hot here.)

It was good to hear from G and G, I hope they have a great time on their cruise. It was good to hear from you to Katey it sounds like Medicine Hat is a good place for you and I'm glad the boys are enjoying it. It's also great to hear about your writing and I wish you the best of luck with your submission!

Elena it was great to hear from you. I think I've played human battleship before but I'm really not sure tell me a little more about it. As for the tourism here in Denver that's something that really depends on my companions and my area. It's something I'd like to do but I don't think I will for at least another transfer.

Speaking of which it's crazy to think that I've just finished my first transfer in the field! Me and Elder Lopez will both be staying here in Denver Fourth, the only change in our District is that Elder Ence is getting transferred. (he's the really tall one with glasses in the pictures in front of the the temple.)

I'm glad you had fun at the book signing Sister! it would be great to be there and visualize yourself on the other side of the table. That day in the far off future that I'm not going to talk about, when that happens we'll have to go to a book signing together. I'm glad you’re determined in your writing I'm excited to hear a little more about it when you've done it, but don't let it kill your enthusiasm for Bells because that book really is amazing.

Mom and Dad great to hear from you as always it sounds like both of you are getting really excited for your mission, and I'm glad you’re working hard now. And also Dad you went rock climbing for staff meeting that sounds awesome!

You asked about what kind of service we've done out here, It's nothing exciting really, we've helped people move cleaned up yards- that fun stuff. I love serving it's always great but I really haven't had any cool experiences with service or anything yet. My favourite service project we did was when we went out to the mountains a little bit to help the stake work in the Church owned park out there. It was nice to be outside of the city seeing as how I didn't have that chance at all this past summer.

Ok I guess I'll tell you a little about this week here. The thing I'm most excited about is that Jesus will be baptized this sunday I'm super excited about that he is going to be an amazing member, I've been so lucky to have the opportunity to teach someone who the Lord has prepared like that. Also some pretty big news, yesterday we got to have a three hour training session with Elder Bednar. Yes the Elder Bednar it was so cool and I learned so much about teaching by the spirit. It was amazing to see how normal he was, yet the power he had when he spoke and bore testimony.

Dad a few weeks ago you asked if I could tell you a little more about the work here I never did my bad so I'll tell you a little about some of the people we teach. Right now we do a fair amount of work with Less Actives and Recent Converts. one of my favourite families is the Mendoza family. Hermano Mendoza is a really amazing man doctrinally he's an amazing member. The only reason he can't go to church every week is because he's sick and can't always come. We do a lot of work with him and his daughters who have moved out. We're working hard and they're starting to do better. Another one of our Investigators is Estela, we've been teaching her since my first week. She knows that the restoration and the book of mormon are true but we're having trouble getting her to church because she attends another church at the same time. We gave her a church tour on saturday and it went really well, but then she didn't come to church sunday morning. I know that if we can just get her to come to church and get her the fellowship she needs that she will get baptized, we've just got to overcome that obstacle. I really love our area, we're busy all the time and we are having success. Right now we have so many people who are so close and just need a little bit more. That's our main focus right now, just trying to help all the people who are almost there.

I love you all, I hope you're all doing well. I love being out here, I know this Church is true and I love being a missionary!

Love,

Elder Rojo (A lot of people here actually call me that just so know)

Capitulo 15

Hola Familia!

Que loco tiempo esta pasando muy rapido! me siento como you solamente
llegue en el campo dos dias en el passado! Pero estoy casi terminado
con mi primero cambio! Quiero que ustedes sepan que mi mission es todo
a mi! Me encanta mi mission y espero que cada persona que sirve un
mission tambien siente como mi.

That crazy time is passing too fast! I feel like you only
arrives in two days in the field passado! But I'm almost finished
with my first transfer! I want you to know that my mission is all
my! I love my mission and I hope that each person who served
also feel like my mission. (Google translated)

It was a great week, the work is goin well here and I love it!
Thankyou for all the letters that I recieved (including a 5 letter day
on tuesday) thank you to the Harkers, The Kearl's and Bishop. I really
loved the picture of the temple, it was great to see what it looks like
now that it's done! That's also a really cool story about Brett, glad
to hear he's doing well back home.

Hey quick note I've just thought about the emails that I feel the best
about after I write them, and they’re always the ones when I answer lots
of questions. So please have everyone send me questions I like
answering them!

Ok first off Elena great to get your email. I'm sorry you had to use
google translate, but sometime in the very distant future that I'm not
going to think about when I'm not a missionary that would be awesome
to translate Spanish for you anytime. I love the Spanish language! It's
good to hear that you like your new roommate, and that is a little
strange that there are people at welcome week younger than me. I still
feel really young sometimes. That's probably because I really am
especially when I talk to the missionaries in their 20's

Mom and Dad! it was great to hear from you too, in answer and
explanation to a few questions, yes a spice kit would be wonderful the
first one you mentioned sounds fantastic! also if you could send me
some more tape for my mouth, and my blue jump rope that would be great
because I'm running out of tape and the jump rope would be good for
excercise. Also I have three more temple cards, but I don't know how
many more times I'll be going to the temple because I could quite
easily end up serving most of my mission on the western slopes and not
have temple access so send me a few cards and I'll make sure they all
get done. On the photos, the one in front of the Provo temple is me
and the other elders in my MTC district just taking a funny picture we
were being  Daniel, Shadrac, Meshach and Abednego and ....... their other
two friends ..... who are not named in the Old Testament. The guy in
the back who photo bombed us ...( shaking my head )

You also asked what I've learned out here in the Mission field. Wow
where to start and what to tell.

1. This one won't apply quite as much to you two but I think all
missionaries should know it. Part of being a good missionary is being
a good companion, or just good with other missionary's in your
district or Zone. You could have all the scriptures memorized and be
the most spiritual missionary in the world, but if you don't love your
companion and work in unity with them you won't be near as affective.

2. There's no excuse not to be exactly obedient. I've seen lots of
missionaries who will say that you need to loosen up and have fun on
your mission. I can honestly say that the most fun I've had on my
mission is when I am being exactly obedient, fun and obedience do go
together. Others will say that its more important to follow the spirit
and not be a Pharisee. The problem with that is that Preach my Gospel
and the white handbook were written by apostles and others under the
direction of the Spirit. I have seen a lot of missionaries use that as
an excuse and break rules in the name of the Spirit. I think that
sometimes the Spirit may prompt us to do something against the rules,
but those are rare experiences.

3. Patience is one of the most valuable things you can have on a
mission (Mom and Dad you should be pretty good at this, after all you
raised me- that takes patience) Whether it's patience with
investigators, patience with the members, or patience with your
companion. It is extremely important.

There's so much that I've learned on my mission and I wish that I
could share it all, but for right now that's probably all.

I love you all, and I hope that everything is going really well back home
